HAIR
It is essentially excesses in either vata or pitta doshas that can cause hair loss. According to Ayurveda, excesses of vata or pitta can cause hair to fall out at the root. The hair follicles will then fill with blood or kapha, inhibiting re-growth. Excess pitta can cause premature grey hair, and excess kapha and vata can cause dry and brittle hair and an itchy scalp. Every now and then, on almost all the websites you might have read about the individuality and how much individuality matters in Ayurveda. Your hairs, literally speak about your Dosha and once you know that which Dosha your hairs have you can know the needs of the hair and can nourish the hair beautifully.

The Ayurveda Doshas and Hair Loss
Vata:
People who are predominantly vata generally have dark, coarse, wiry or frizzy hair. It’s the type that gets tangled easily and is prone to the dreaded split ends.
THE VATA DOSHA: (DRY HAIR AND SCALP / EXCESSIVE DRY SKIN):
vata governs all movement in the mind and body. it is the principle of kinetic energy. Beauty is about maintaining wellness by proper diet and lifestyle according to our constitution (Prakruti) and the season around us. Maintaining balance though diet, lifestyle and positive attitude allows us to enjoy, feel and look fresh and vital every day. Selection of foods should be clean, pure and whole to maintain our vibrancy and vitality. Skin and hair is always related to the constitution (prakruti) according to ayurveda.
Vata Hair Type:
Vata type hair may be dry, frizzy and flaky. So rather than just treating your hair externally, ayurveda considers the whole physiology by balancing Vata dosha. For example, an oil application internally and externally and following a nourishing warm cooked diet will take care of many problems including dry hair, as well as insomnia, worry and many other Vata imbalances.
Thin, dry with curls are the hair with the maximum of the Vata Dosha. These hairs break very easily and if not supported and supplied with good amount of hair oil, these will keep on falling. Condition will be different then baldness. It will be a condition of the scanty hair. Small hair won’t be too curly, but once the hair will be long enough these will be curlier.

Vata - Pitta- Fire-riding air! Too thin to be plucked easily and grey or just white hair is due to the excessive of the Pitta. Once Pitta and Vata come together; Vata increases the effect of the Kapha (air enhances the fire). This deadly combination of the Doshas can also cause alopecia- where hair strands will fall in patches. Dandruff and other problems may prevail with this combination of the Doshas.

Vata - Kapha- Thick, strong still scanty hair is due to the combination of the Vata and Kapha together. Complete healthy hair in old age is generally due to Vata Kapha combination or alone due to Kapha. The main difference of these two is – scanty hair where Vata is involved with Kapha. Chances of the Dandruff will be higher in this case.

Pitta:
If you are a pitta — your hair is predominantly brown or blonde, light, fine and silky. You are more likely to face problems like premature graying or baldness. There is also the problem of becoming oily in hot and dry weather which also leads to dullness of the hair.
THE PITTA DOSHA: (COMBINATION HAIR / SENSITIVE SKIN)
pitta is the force created by the dynamic interplay of water and fire. These forces indicate transformation.

Grey, light coloured or light brown (not blonde) hair is due to Pitta Dosha. The Pitta Dosha can erase the hair from the scalp, so if you don’t find hair on a person’s scalp and he is a perfectionist and emotional-be sure that his Pitta is on a surge. Pitta people should maintain their hair properly.

Kapha:
Those who are kapha have do have dark or light hair. It is thick, heavy, wavy and slightly oily. Most kaphas have the pleasure of lustrous hair. A lot of different circumstances can lead to unhealthy hair. Hormonal imbalance, sebum clogging the pores, bad diet, and sometimes, unfortunately, it’s just hereditary. Using the practice of ayurveda you can help combat these problems.
THE KAPHA DOSHA: (OILY HAIR / OILY SKIN)
The kapha dosha integrates the elements of earth and water, and represents the structure principle. Beauty is about maintaining wellness by proper diet and lifestyle according to our constitution (Prakruti) and the season around us. Maintaining balance though diet, lifestyle and positive attitude, allows us to enjoy, feel and look fresh and vital every day. Selection of foods should be clean, pure and whole to maintain our vibrancy and vitality.
Kapha Hair Type:
Kapha skin is cool to the touch and is thicker, softer, oilier and smoother than the other two types. Kapha hair is usually thick, wavy, oily and dark. People with Kapha skin don't tend to form wrinkles until very late in life. When out of balance, Kapha can suffer from excessive oiliness, enlarged pores & blackheads. Frequent deep cleansing should be the basis of your beauty regimen. Base oil for Kapha dosha is olive or almond. Essential oils should be spicy, light, warm and stimulating to the mind and body such as Cedar, Eucalyptus, Pine and Sage.
Thick, strong, good, abundant are the scalp hairs of the Kapha people and these keep like this for the age. Need not to care much because Kapha’s unctuousness internally helps the strands to grow faster and keep these strong and healthy. Greying of hairs is also not common in pure Kapha persons. Kapha hairs can be too curly. These curls will reduce once hair is long, just opposite to the condition with the Vata.
Hair is always related to the constitution (prakruti) according to ayurveda. The above conditions can appear as a result of some of the diseases and due to side effects of some medications. The above description is according to the normal conditions- not according to the medical conditions.
